About the role

We are looking for a talented organiser to join our team to help support grassroots groups and networks around the UK organising to stop oil and gas expansion through the Stop Cambo/Stop Rosebank coalition. Tipping Point’s focus within the network is on bolstering the movement infrastructure and the direct training and organising support needed to keep growing the distributed power, connections and tactical skills of the wide range of grassroots groups recruited into the campaign.

You’ll create engagement pathways to help Stop Cambo supporters become regular, active organisers and facilitators of the campaign and connect them with groups and actions near them. You’ll play a key role in growing the people power that distributed organising to Stop Rosebank is able to bring to #StopAllFields and secure a just transition.

You will be directly supporting grassroots groups and organisers involved in the Stop Rosebank network to build power through regular welcome calls, training, working groups. Network meetings, action coordination and hands-on support.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small friendly team supporting one of the most dynamic climate network in the UK – last year we successfully forced Shell out the controversial Cambo oil field.  You’ll be passionate using your skills, contacts and passion to build grassroots power and solidarity that can transform the UK’s approach to the intertwined causes of the climate crisis, energy crisis and cost of living crisis in a pivotal moment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide facilitation and coordination support to Stop Cambo working groups, particularly, supporting the Welcome Team to regularly engage and onboard new supporters.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer collaboration between groups, mutual support and learning through online networks, resources and events, for example acting as community manager in Stop Cambo’s Slack workspace.
  • Support grassroots groups with logistics support, training, small grants, guidance and resources to securely organise distributed action
  • Support grassroots groups to develop clear absorption tactics for every action they take through using online tools like Action Network petitions, open letters and digital canvassing.
  • Support local groups to mobilise collectively around key moments in solidarity with the global climate movement (eg. COP27, Youth Strikes, climate disaster moments)
  • Facilitate political education around climate justice, international solidarity and just transition themes to build new connections between allied movements and groups.
  • Support the design and delivery of Stop Cambo’s regular training programme to centre care, creativity, accessibility, regenerative group culture and tactical innovation.

You will be joining a thriving team within Tipping Point with organisers based in Scotland, the North West, North East, Midlands, South West and London & the South East. You’ll also be representing Tipping Point within the Stop Cambo coalition and liaising daily with key partner organisations, grassroots groups and volunteers.  You will be encouraged and supported to play an active role in the running and evolution of both Tipping Point and the Stop Cambo network we support.

We are looking for someone who has:

    • A strong affinity with Tipping Point UK’s aims, organising principles and organisational values.
    • A commitment to climate justice, global solidarity and building a movement centred on care, equity and liberation.
    • Ability to understand and support the needs of grassroots organisers and groups
    • Ability to think strategically and have a constructive, problem-solving approach
    • Experience of grassroots campaigning, community organising or network development
    • Experience of combating oppression in all its forms
    • A talent for using online organising spaces (eg.. Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, Discord) to build community and collaborative working between individuals and groups
    • Ability to coordinate and support creative action planning and distributed days of action
    • Comfort with working autonomously and independently, using own self-initiative

      About Tipping Point

Tipping Point’s mission is to support grassroots groups and movements to build both the critical mass and the critical connections that we will need in time to create a social tipping point for climate justice and reparations.

Since we launched in 2021, Tipping Point UK has been working behind the scenes to build, train, support, and mobilise 100s of grassroots groups and networks working towards climate justice and build movement power to win lasting political change.

Together our team of 16 organisers is helping to inject momentum, tactical innovation and energy into the climate justice movement on three important fronts: stopping oil and gas expansion (#StopCambo/#StopRosebank); stopping fossil fuel financing (#DefundClimateChaos), and starting to win reparative climate justice solutions in the UK and globally (#ClimateReparations).

We train and support grassroots groups to build their community leadership, digital skills, open structures and welcoming culture to inspire and absorb large new bases of supporters in ‘moments of the whirlwind’. By frontloading this DNA with grassroots networks and providing powerful tech tools we empower groups to take creative action, tell engaging stories and frame popular demands that will enable millions of people to join the movement.

Our team works and collaborates remotely using Slack, Zoom, Google Drive and other online platforms that keep us nimble and responsive to movement needs.
