Tipping Point UK is a not-for-profit worker cooperative working nimbly behind the scenes to build, train, support, resource, organise and mobilise hundreds of diverse grassroots groups into networks tackling the intersections between climate, social, economic and racial justice.

The purpose of this role is to guide the evolution of our cooperative’s organisational governance, structure, policies and culture, while centring care, equity and liberation in the ways we work with each other and the movements and grassroots groups we support. It seeks to help the team find ever better ways to stay nimble, accountable and effective together so that we can have maximum impact. The role has the responsibility for supporting our team and working groups to put into practice the principles and processes we collectively agree to in our organisational strategy and planning.  

Contract: Fixed term contract 2.5 days [17.5 hours] per week for 10.5 months from 16 September 2024 to 31 July 2025. This role is New Child Leave Cover for one of our existing staff members.

Compensation: Between £17,500 and £19,688 for the 10.5 month contract period. All team members are contracted on the same terms and conditions and paid an equitable compensation rate equivalent to a full-time salary of £40,000-£45,000 pro-rata at 5 days per week, regardless of role or level of experience.

Essential criteria 

  • Proactive and well organised, with the ability to work autonomously and independently as part of a horizontal not-for-profit worker cooperative
  • Experience of managing projects that require close attention to detail
  • Experience working in a flat structure organisation or cooperative
  • Experience designing organisational governance structures 
  • Experience developing and maintaining systems for evaluating organisational strategy and objectives
  • Conflict mediation training or experience
  • Experience facilitating difficult conversations with care and skill
  • Experience and comfort using Airtable, Slack and Google Workspace 
  • Responsive and communicative to staff requests
  • Experience writing organisational policies and procedures  

Responsibilities 

 

People and Culture (~1 day per week) 

  • Sit on our People and Culture working group and keep a bird’s eye view of the working group’s work towards its annual objectives. Ensure the working group reviews objectives regularly. 
  • Take responsibility for an equal share of action points that arise from People & Culture working group meetings
  • Receive and decide on accessibility requests, including requests for disability leave. Maintain file of requests in Confidential Org Dev Drive
  • Receive and decide on Carer’s leave requests. Maintain file of requests in Confidential Org Dev Drive
  • Carry out exit interviews and deliver feedback to relevant working groups. Where there is feedback to individuals, schedule 1:1s and deliver with care and support. 
  • Conduct onboarding sessions for new staff on Tipping Point’s organisational systems and structure
  • Develop systems and responses to staff requests related to improving our internal culture, policies and processes. 

Governance and Strategy (~1 day per week) 

  • Sit on our Governance and Strategy working group and maintain a bird’s eye view of the working group’s work towards its annual objectives. Ensure the working group reviews objectives regularly. 
  • Take responsibility for an equal share of action points that arise from Governance and Strategy working group meetings
  • Develop and maintain robust monitoring, evaluation and reporting mechanisms
  • Develop systems and responses to staff requests related to improving our systems of governance, structure, strategy and evaluation. 
  • Ensure our compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Support working group to organise Advisors Group meetings twice a year
  • Respond to filing requests from Companies House and submit relevant documentation
  • Support away day working groups when needed
  • Coordinate quarterly organisational reflection on structure
  • Coordinate annual peer reviews (annually)  and 6 month peer review check ins 
  • Coordinate Board of Directors elections annually (June 2025) 
  • Coordinate working group rotation annually (June 2025) 
  • Coordinate Performance Support Team elections annually (June 2025) 

Performance Support and Conflict Mediation (~0.5 day per week) 

Performance Support

  • Sit on our Performance Support Team and coordinate quarterly meetings for the team to meet.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for concerns related to performance to be raised. 
  • Serve as the first point of contact for external complaints. 
  • Maintain confidential file of all issues and complaints raised
  • Coordinate the formation of a performance support team and coordinate the administrative aspects of a performance support process when needed

Conflict mediation 

  • Coordinate monthly mediation practice sessions with our internal mediation team 
  • Hold mediations when requested (on average once a month)
